THE TOWN TOO TOUGH TO DIE... Who hasn't heard of the famous Boot Hill cemetery? There are many graves marked as "unknown"... Back in the wild west there was said to be "a killing a day" in Tombstone--many of these men didn't even have identification on their bodies, so they were laid out on a "cooling board" for everyone to come see. If they were never identified then their grave marker simply read "Unknown." THE FAMOUS GUNFIGHT--The October 26, 1881 showdown between Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp and the Clantons and the McLaury's is reinacted as an outdoor theater production--don't miss it! In the actual battle three of the Clanton gang were killed, Ike and another wounded member escaped. The three Earp brothers all survived. Wyatt Earp spent his final years in California, where he befriended many "western" actors, no doubt giving them plenty of inspiration for their films! FREE Newsletter! IN THE BIRDCAGE The "ladies of the night" entertained men in theater boxes overlooking the stage (shown in one of the photos below)--they came to be known as "Bird Cages"--you can also see a photo of one of the "cribs"--a small room with a bed. The song by Arthur J. Lamb "She's only a bird in a gilded cage" was written for these tainted angels of Tombstone... If you get a chance to visit Tombstone don't miss a tour of the Birdcage theater. For a small fee you'll see many antiques and artifacts, and perhaps even meet a ghost. When we visited there was a strong pressure in the building next to some of the furniture. Could it have been "Doc Holliday" next to the actual table where he used to play his favorite game of Fargo?
