How far would you go to
protect a secret? Ask David Farrell - a man
who risks
everything…
Law student, David Farrell, is months away from his
dream of becoming a powerful attorney in Texas when
fate steps in. A chance encounter in a Houston bar
opens a seam into his past and threatens to expose a secret kept
hidden behind smiles and charm. In one brief moment Farrell goes
from charismatic law student on the brink of a brilliant career, to
a man embarking on a journey of no
return.
While
Farrell fights his personal demons, Houston homicide detective, Paul
Barlow, is frustrated with suspected serial rape cases in the
southwest part of the city. A call comes in - a young woman has been
murdered in the same area of the city. The modus operandi of the crimes
dovetail and Barlow must figure out the connection between the women
and the crimes, if there is one, before more fall victim to the
rapist or killer. Farrell eventually becomes a suspect but
something’s not right. This ‘something’ leads Barlow through a maze
of secrets, disguises, obsessions, love and betrayal before he can
solve the crimes.

REVIEWS FOR MURDER IN THE THIRD PERSON - By Betty
Gordon
IT’S LESSONS ARE BASIC AND INSTINCTUAL AND ARE GOOD REMINDERS OF
SELF-ESTEEM ISSUES – October 5, 2007
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI)
Betty Gordon is a native Texan who married and raised a family in
the Houston area. She worked as a paralegal while pursuing a degree
and spent time in law school. After a year and a half, she decided
to turn to the arts and graduated with a degree in professional
writing and a masters in Literature and Visual Arts. She also has a
background in dancing and is a sculptor. She has published
non-fiction and poetry.
David Ferrell is a stellar law
student with looks, charisma, and promise. He is engaged and the
future looks bright, until an acquaintance is found dead in her
apartment. David is carrying on an affair with another law student,
Karen Matthews, and her roommate, Vicki Sanders, is highly
suspicious of him, based on the events leading up to the murder. Her
real love is investigative work, but a manipulative father is
pushing her through law school. Paul Barlow, the homicide detective,
is simply trying to solve a string of rapes and has seemingly come
to a dead end. Ferrell has spent time in Vietnam, which has a huge
bearing on the case. In the meantime, Vicki is trying like crazy to
get her friend Karen to see the light:
"'That's what I want
to talk to you about, Karen, you are getting on with your life.
You're not a dumb woman, but sometimes when we're too close to a
situation, we don't see what's going on-like not seeing the forest
for the trees thing, you know? Anyway, we've talked about you and
David a million times, but this time I'd like to keep the floor for
awhile before you interrupt me with how great he is, how good he is
for you, and so on.'"
Betty Gordon no doubt writes as a
mother and an observer of students in college and law school. Her
characters are wonderful examples of "people-in-training" and the
mistakes that they make. She cleverly tucks some truisms into her
writing by showing rather than telling. Her plot is believable;
tragic; and engrossing to the reader. Her writing style is crisp and
fresh, and any mystery lover will have a hard time putting her book
down. MURDER IN THE THIRD PERSON is a cozy with lots of twists and
turns that can be enjoyed by any reader of almost any age. It's
lessons are basic and instinctual and are good reminders of
self-esteem issues.

I’M NOT MUCH OF A FICTION READER, BUT I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK
DOWN! – November 27, 2007
By D. Kroneman (Albuquerque, New Mexico)
Murder In The Third Person by Betty Gordon was a real page turner
for me. Typically I gravitate to nonfiction and memoirs. But the
author's character development really brought them to life! With all
of the twists and turns, it came together to a very well thought out
conclusion. I highly recommend Murder In The Third Person!!
Murder in the Third Person by Betty
Gordon grips the reader
from the first page and continues to the end. Four women are
immersed in David Farrell's world and their lives are forever
changed, not only by him but by the changes in 1970s Houston. The
Bayou City's population explosion in the seventies highlights the
singles scene and legal profession.
The four women are the primary
characters with David Farrell becoming the nexus of their life
changing issues. Their relationships and hopes for the future become
paramount as you get deeper into the story. I hope to see some of
these characters, two in particular, continue in a
sequel.
The final chapters of the novel
center around an intriguing courtroom scene that brings a satisfying
ending to the story.

"I read your book while I was in
Chicago. I LOVED IT!!!! I couldn’t put it down and found myself

finished it in a day and a half in spite of myself. I am so excited
