Jan Melara was born and raised in Orange, Texas. She graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a degree in Nursing. After working as a Registered Nurse for over twenty five years in Orange, College Station, and Austin, Texas, she retired to beautiful Lake Rabon in Laurens County, South Carolina. There she happily pursues her first love, creative writing.

Jan was always able to put words together well, but at first could not come up with anything to write about. It took twenty five years of nursing, a divorce, childrearing, and finding and marrying her true love at age 49 for her to finally have some stories worth telling. Life in a rural setting affords her the time to write those stories as well as time to sit back and enjoy life.

When she’s not writing or relaxing, Jan enjoys walking with her faithful canine companion, Mini Me, kayaking, and observing the wildlife which is abundant around Lake Rabon. Jan is also a PADI certified Rescue Diver and has enjoyed scuba diving throughout the Caribbean. It goes without saying that she is a voracious reader.
