STEP ONE--Did
you read the Publishing Gateway page? If not click HERE
to make sure you're submitting a genre
that we want to read! Click
HERE if you need to ask the
Publishing desk a question.
CORRECT LENGTH FOR FICTION
SUBMISSIONS: Remember we want
"approximately" the first 5000 words or the entire first Chapter (if
it's just a little longer than 5000 words) and a complete synopsis
(your full story outline.) This is NOT the time to send us half the
book--if the first Chapter gets our attention then we'll ask to see
more!
NON-FICTION
SUBMISSIONS: A
little more complicated than a fiction submission--we need to
see the Table of Contents and key excerpts or a thorough summary, up
to 5000 words. If we can't understand your concept/theories then we
won't ask to read the entire manuscript... NEW - CLICK HERE FOR
NON-FICTION SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS!
SHORT STORY SUBMISSIONS:
Send us the completed story--typically
between 3000 and 9000 words. Question about length? Click HERE to e-mail the Publishing
desk. NOTE - If the story is for a specific OPEN
ANTHOLOGY then be sure to tell us in your
e-mail! IMPORTANT - Since your Short Story is
a "complete" submission we expect to see it edited and proofed for
spelling and typos. This is your chance to get into one of
L&L Dreamspell's anthologies, so don't spoil it by
showing us "messy" work. You wouldn't show up for a job interview
without putting on your best clothes and trying to make a good
impression, so consider this submission your "interview" with the
L&L Dreamspell Publishing team--impress us with your
ability to create both an exciting story and a polished
manuscript! For help with all aspects of writing click HERE to
visit the Links page.
STEP TWO - Prepare your work: Put your
submission into a "Word" doc attachment to
your e-mail. Plain white background, Black ink--Times New Roman 12
Point, single or double
spaced. DON'T send
us photos, illustrations, tables or charts. We want a SMALL file
that's fast and easy to read. You want to hear back from us soon,
don't you? Keeping it plain and simple right now will get the
fastest reply from the L&L Dreamspell team. We're
waiting...impress us with your writing, but
please follow the guidelines!
E-MAILED SUBMISSIONS ONLY! Do
not send submissions to our P.O. Box - Thanks!
DAZZLE US - EXCITE US - MAKE US WANT
YOU! Put your best effort forward now -
really edit your writing, or have someone check your work.
Sometimes you can't see your own typos and
simple errors because you've stared at your manuscript so long your
eyes are blurry and blood-shot - believe me the L&L
Dreamspell team knows that feeling all too well!
It's possible to join a critique group - there's free help
on the internet--people who can catch your errors and give you
simple suggestions that could make or break your chances to
be a "Chosen One" for our author team. Look for writing help on
our LINKS
page.
WHAT WE DON'T WANT TO SEE
IN YOUR SAMPLE - OVER USE OF "LY"
ADVERBS - This separates the
amateurs from the professionals. Also excessive "he said/she
said" dialogue tags and passive "was/were"... USE THE "SHOW
DON'T TELL" STYLE OF WRITING - Help is available
on our LINKS page (numerous
websites outlining common new author mistakes) - you can also
click HERE for some of our quick
tips to help polish your work before you submit!
WHAT TO TYPE IN THE
E-MAIL: Check the column to
the right and use the correct subject line! In the "body"
of the e-mail please let us know which sub-type within the
genre/category your're submitting and which anthology it's for if
it's a short story. This is especially important with the
Non-Fiction Paranormal and Metaphysical categories. Also place the
book or story's title in the e-mail. Send us your REAL name
(and also your pen-name if you have one.) It's not necessary to give
us your home address and/or phone number yet unless you want to.
DON'T FORGET!!! If this is a simulatneous
submission please tell us.
SUBMIT!
One final reminder--be sure you are in
the right place with the correct genre/category. Send us a
"Word" doc file in Black 12 point Times
New Roman font! NO pictures. Keep it down to the correct length and
give us exactly what we asked for...do the same with your
e-mail. Go to the right-hand
column--be sure to select the correct genre subject
line! If you want us to read it please go over these
instructions again to make sure it's just what we've asked for -
nothing more, nothing less... Thanks!
