Doug Schlatter is a transplanted Yankee (defined by native Texans as anyone from north of the Red River), a long-time resident of Houston, and a graduate of Rice University. He’s retired, which gives him lots of time to write, even though he hasn’t been up before 10 AM in years.
Frightened at an early age by Humphrey Bogart in the movie The Maltese Falcon, he nonetheless writes mysteries now. His novel, Loved to Death, is a deadly serious (pun intended) film-noir story. His play, Murder Can Be Fatal, is a comedy-romance complete with a few murders. He’s now working on another play starring a moron detective. And, for a change of pace, a ­biography of Aaron Burr. Go figure.
