Rookie PI Sidra Smart thinks she knows where she’s headed. She’s
divorced her preacher-husband, she’s inherited a private detective
business, and she’s solved her first case. But then she moves into a
ghost active house and discovers that the past holds the key
not only to her future, but the to the lives of innocent people
trapped in an unholy web of deception that spans decades.
This mystery/suspense novel is set in a small Texas town where
everyone knows everything about the other—or at least think they
do—until the sins of the past catch up with the secrets of the
present. Where yesterday’s lighthouses, yellow fever, and Civil War
skirmishes play a significant role in uncovering the sins of
today.
When Sid’s second case requires she clear the name of a dead man,
she finds herself confounded by clues that lead nowhere. She battles
her own prejudice, a burned-out office, the disappearance of a local
preacher’s wife, and a midnight trip through a murky swamp before
clues begin to fall in place. Then, with assistance from a seemingly
unknown and perhaps ghostly force, Sid learns something about
herself—when the cause is right she never retreats.
The interaction between Sid and her client, a tobacco-spitting,
chair-rocking old codger more interested in the shine on his shoes
than the dust on his furniture, once again brings small-town America
to life.

REVIEWS FOR DEADLY SINS DEADLY SECRETS -
By Sylvia Dickey Smith
ANOTHER FANTASTIC READ – January 15, 2008By Carol M.
Menchu (Texas)
This second book is every way as good as the first. Sidra is
growing in spirit as well as PI knowledge. She
fumbles/mumbles/succeeds like any and all of us would if we were
following a dream. Good writing, good character, freeing spirit
make for good books. Keep up the good work.
ANOTHER SID SMART WINNER! – January 14, 2008
Sid Smart seems to be winning the battle for an independent life
when she's hired to clear the name of a young man suspected of
murder.
Her simple exists is constantly being complicated by
visits from ghosts trying to tell her something, a preacher and his
straying wife, a canine, and of course her aunt. Its bad enough that
Sid is forced to move in with her aunt in her haunted 19th century
home when her apartment building is sold, but then someone burns
down the offices of The Third Eye detective agency; her agency. The
suspected arsonist is then found dead on Sid's back porch.
Will Kate, the ghost, help Sid solve the mystery? Third Eye
Intuitive Investigations is hard at work.
Sylvia Dickey
Smith has a very entertaining series in The Third Eye, and Sid
Smart. Sid gets stronger in every book.

ANOTHER WINNER!! – December 26, 2007
By Karyn Trantham
This book is an absolute winner!! Sylvia grabs your full
attention from the first sentence and you will have a hard time
putting this book down. Her talent for weaving a tapestry of
characters and surprising turn of events kept me on the edge of my
chair and commanded nothing less than my undivided attention. Sylvia
has moved up in the ranks of my favorite authors to number one! If
you thought the first book in the series was good, then you will
definitely love Deadly Sins-Deadly Secrets. Sylvia has hit the ball
out of the park on this one.
ANOTHER GREAT ADVENTURE WITH SIDRA SMART – December 16,
2007
By Michael W. Eiden (Orange, TX)
Sylvia Dickey. Smith's second mystery was a fast-paced read from
page one. It is loaded with many unexpected turns and much
interesting information about the area the book is set in--Southeast
Texas. Her heroine, Sidra Smart, along with other well-defined
characters, is never boring. I'm looking forward to more good
reading from Sylvia Dickey Smith.
CORKSCREWED! – November 12, 2007
By Dr. Susan E. Whitfield
I just finished Sylvia Dickey Smith's second novel, Deadly
Sins-Deadly Secrets. Wow! The action truly took my breath. The
deeper Sid got into the investigation, the harder it was to put the
book down. I loved the twisty-turny plot. If you like fast-pace
mysteries with strong female investigators, check this one out.
DEADLY SINS – DEADLY SECRETS
Reviewed by Earl Staggs © 2007
In her first novel, DANCE ON HIS GRAVE, Sylvia Dickey Smith
introduced Sidra Smart, a woman brave enough to step out of an
inhibitive marriage and begin a new life. When she divorced her
possessive, controlling Baptist minister husband, Sid had no idea
what she was stepping into. First, she inherited a private
investigation agency from her late brother along with a leftover
case involving an old murder. Next, she discovered within herself a
person she did not know existed, a person unable to ignore injustice
or turn away people desperately needing help, even if it meant
placing her own life in danger.
In DEADLY SINS – DEADLY SECRETS, Sid continues her journey toward
personal self-discovery, supported once again by her somewhat
eccentric and lovable Aunt Annie and a crusty veteran PI willing to
teach her the tricks of the trade, but who also enjoys her stumbling
attempts to learn the hard way. In this, her second case as a PI,
Sid is drawn into a situation wherein shrouded secrets of the past
must be revealed to solve grisly murders of the present. Her digging
for the truth extends as far back as Civil War days in the small
East Texas town where the story is set when she discovers the diary
of a fascinating and feisty woman who seems to be nudging Sid in the
right direction.
Sid’s resolve to prove a man innocent of murder in spite of
staggering evidence against him leads her through attempts on her
life, butting heads with powerful people equally determined to keep
old secrets hidden, and a romantic involvement she tried hard to
avoid.
Sylvia Dickey Smith is a talented author who, in this second
novel as successfully as in her first, seamlessly weaves the story
of a woman determined to become the person she left behind years ago
with an engrossing tale of murder, deceit and suspense.
