Bed and Breakfast Inns are nice places to visit, but you just might end up dead before breakfast! About the group - The Final Twist was founded in February 2004 in the Houston, Texas area for the purpose of offering support and encouragement to local area mystery writers. The Final Twist is honored to have among its members the publishing team of L&L Dreamspell as well as an award winning author, a screenwriter/independent film producer, a book reviewer/librarian, and others successful within their chosen field. Stories and Authors:
At a performance of one of Jessie Carr’s “entertainments” – a three-day murder mystery play written for a Texas B&B – one of the guest-players is there for a New Year’s Eve rendezvous with a married man. The floozy drinks too much at dinner, forcing Jessie to stand in and play her part as a suspect. When the wandering Lothario starts the New Year by turning up shot dead, the floozy’s disappeared. Now Jessie must now stand in as sleuth for an inept deputy, to sift the facts in a real crime. Dead by Breakfast, An Enchanted Rose Mystery by Betty Gordon A bed and breakfast in Texas' Hill Country inherits a Casper-like ghost, Henry. Henry is mischievous and fun, but he has friends who are not so friendly. Mrs. Banish, a ghost hunter, is called in to rid the B&B of the unwelcome visitors, but she disappears a short time later. Did Henry, his friends, or someone else do away with Mrs. Banish? Veiled Deception, Choreography of a Crime by Betty Gordon Zoe Macmillan's bed and breakfast in the Heights area of Houston, Texas is robbed. Zoe, a belly dancer and owner of the bed and breakfast, is in the midst of preparing for an international dance convention. She supplies a common area in the B&B with a Doumbek (drum) and several swords. Only these items are missing. The Legacy of Ledgemont Inn by Linda Houle While Fran is away at college she discovers she’s about to inherit the family B&B on her 21st birthday. Accompanied by her friend Justine, she returns to Ledgemont Inn hoping for a happy reunion with the father she hasn’t seen in years. The girls are in for a shock at the terrible condition of the estate and the frightening demeanor of the new staff—and then things go from bad to worse… Do Wah Diddy Die Already by Pauline Baird Jones Luci Seymour is out of the murder business and in the mom/wife/B&B business. Until the morning she sees a body in the new freezer. But when she goes to call in her homicide detective husband, she sees the dead guy walk in the front door. Not dead. Not even chilly... Snake and Smiley by Alexis Glynn Latner Sudden death and an unsolved old mystery visit a warbird pilots' reunion at the Air Base Inn. The Old Pine Lodge by Lisa Rene' Smith When Alex bought the Old Pine Lodge she walked right into the small town mystery of a missing woman and a fanged monster in the surrounding woods. But who was the real monster? Alex gets assistance from the other side and in turn helps the unsettled spirit get the revenge it seeks. I Love a Parade! by Gayle Wigglesworth Glenda's feeling of freedom really only lasted a few hours, until her car broke down in the Texas Hill Country. The garage owner recommended she use a bed and breakfast in the small picturesque town instead of the motel on the highway, while she waited for the part they needed to fix her car. So she was enjoying herself even though she was not where she intended to be. And when she found out about the parade, she started to feel lucky. But that only lasted until she found the body, then she felt trapped, and scared, and decidedly unlucky.
