At a performance of one of Jessie Carr’s “entertainments” – a three-day murder mystery play written for a Texas B&B – one of the guest-players is there for a New Year’s Eve rendezvous with a married man. The floozy drinks too much at dinner, forcing Jessie to stand in and play her part as a suspect. When the wandering Lothario starts the New Year by turning up shot dead, the floozy’s disappeared. Now Jessie must now stand in as sleuth for an inept deputy, to sift the facts in a real crime.
