Claire Applewhite earned an A.B. in Communications and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from St. Louis University. She completed the Mercantile Leadership Program for Women at St. Louis University, and additional courses at the St. Louis Writer's Workshop and the Summer Writers Institute at Washington University. She is also active in the music department at Washington University, where she studies piano and music theory.
Claire is the Publicity Chair for the St. Louis Writer's Guild, and Vice-President of the Greater St. Louis Chapter of Sisters in Crime. She's been an affiliate member of the Mystery Writers of America since 1997.
To date, Claire has completed five novels, including a three book series. Two have been named semi-finalists in the William Faulkner Creative Writing competition in 2005 and 2006. "Night and Day" was a 2007 Finalist in a MWA competition.
When Claire isn't busy writing fiction and non-fiction and studying piano, she attends writer conferences, and also shows her Airedale Terrier, Jack.
Her past work experience in criminal investigations for the Internal Revenue Service helped uncover the capacity for human fraud and deceit - and served as an inspiration for writing mystery novels!
